“I Just Have to Figure it Out…”

If you have a big project, job search, workout program, or any other goal you are working towards, take three minutes to watch this video. Ramit breaks down one of the most common phrases used in American culture to rationalize and justify our current realities. This was the wake up call I needed right now and I hope it is for you too.

Ramit goes into detail on how when we say, “I just need to figure things out,” what it really means is that we are uncomfortable discussing the topic and want to talk about something else. When he finished that sentence, it was like a bomb dropped in my brain. I realized I had been saying that over and over again, relating to my job search, how I am going to tackle my $80K of student loan debt, and many other things.

One of the most insightful points in this video came when Ramit stated, “We believe we can think our way to clarity, and think our way to action.” This is profound in that we often use “lack of knowledge” as a reason to not take action. “Once I read all the books, watch all the videos, and attend all the presentations about _________ THEN I will (start my business, get in shape, be happy).

No matter how many books you read about shooting a foul shoot, snowboarding, cooking, or writing, you will never improve your ability or discover your passion until you put it into practice. Try it! Whatever it is, just trying will open your mind to more possibilities and will make it easier for you to identify where you need to improve to achieve your desired level of “success” or “mastery”.

I hope this video is the kick in the butt you need to get started today, it was for me.

I love you Mom, I am glad you enjoyed this video as much as I did and completely agree that his conversation applies to more than just finances. Stay strong Mom, we have some clear steps ahead of us and we will be with you every step of the way.

Love,

Brian
